Therapist Melanie Melanie studied English at Saint Mary’s University for several years before enrolling in the 2200 hour Massage Therapy program at Northumberland College in Halifax. She graduated with honors in 2001 and continued her education in Advanced Myofascial Release (“Journey in Hands”, instructor Brad McCutcheon, 2001), Level 1 Reiki (2005) and Muscle Energy: Cervical Spine/ Shoulder (Murray Pickering, 2006).

She began practicing with the team of therapists at the Massage Factor Inc. and in 2004 she was delighted to join her colleagues, Leah and Sarah at their new clinic, located on Beech Street. The relocation proved to be successful and Melanie enjoyed four years of growth, working with clients presenting with postural imbalance, chronic pain, whiplash, repetitive strain and sport injuries.

Melanie is especially interested in client education and self care with an emphasis on stretching, body awareness and protocols for injury recovery. She practices her own self care with the help of various classes in yoga, nutrition, core strength and aromatherapy, and enjoys hiking, surfing, and running.

Recently, Melanie has completed training in “Coping with Grief” and was just certified in Mental Health First Aid. She has also received training in Cancer Care and has been a volunteer Massage Therapist at the Sunshine Room (Victoria General Hospital) for two years.

You may also see Melanie promoting health and wellness at various locations like the Running Room, Canada Post, Lulu Lemon and others. She also supports various fund raising efforts including The Festival of Trees and CIBC Run For the Cure. Do you know a group that would benefit from information on Massage Therapy and general wellness? Contact Melanie for more information.

In May (2009), Melanie was certified in Level I CranioSacral Therapy (with instructor David Tomlinson/ Upledger Institute). This is a gentle, hands on method of releasing restrictions around the brain and spinal cord to enhance central nervous system performance and allow the body and self-correct. In the coming months, she plans to complete training in Systemic Deep Tissue Therapy and Level II CranioSacral Therapy.

The recent move to the new location on Sullivan Street has been an exciting transition. Melanie looks forward to a more flexible schedule in a soothing space that really feels like home. She extends a heartfelt “thank you” to her loyal clients and offers a “welcome” to all new clients looking for effective and therapeutic care.
